Ducks are included in the order Anseres along with geese and swans. They have been around in the history of mankind for a long time and are even pictured in Egyptian hieroglyphics. The mallard seems to have been domesticated in China by at least 500 B.C. Duck hunting is a very popular sport, and in culinary circles duck is considered a delicacy. The strikingly colorful physical appearance of ducks is fascinating, as well as seeing the "V" formation as they migrate. Great pains are taken to protect the long-term future of ducks in this age of heightened waterfowl conservation.
